I’ve done some research on this rewrite and it’s a lot more complicated than I thought.
I remember reading this book in High School and how uncomfortable it was when this book was read aloud.
The author did this to alleviate that situation and to hopefully allow the book into places where it is actually banned.
The original is still accessible everywhere and this is not intended to replace it.
What’s really funny is the Republicans - the Bastion of Political Incorrectness - in the US House of Representatives censored the US Constitution. Oh, and two of them forgot to show up to be sworn in. Seriously, folks, where do you find these clowns? And more importantly, who votes for them?
I don’t have a problem with a “junior” version of the book, plenty of classics have been edited in such a fashion. However, I would hate to think that this would become the ONLY version available.
Only in CRAPISTAN (USA) will these chokefest notions
be initiated. Soon, certain clothing, cars, etc., will be
changed, or banned altogether. How many steps forward
are circumvented by backward ones the more we “progress”?
No wonder birds are falling from the sky! Somebody please check the temperature in Hell, I agree with Ramirez!
I’m against that censorship of Twain’s work because under pretext of making the text sound less racist, it does something awful to the cause it pretends to serve, it will make us forget that racism ever existed.
That reminds me of Frostbite Falls on the Bullwinkle cartoon show.
Minnesota and Canada disputed the ownership of Frostbite Falls, each said it belonged to the other one.

Seriously, has it been revealed who was behind the rewriting of Twain?
