Val: Alix, you can't give biscuit COOKIES. She'll get FAT.
Alix: But she LIKES cookies!
Val: But she'll LIVE longer if we keep her TRIM.
Biscuit: Who wants to LIVE LONGER if you have to live without COOKIES?
You can get snacks that are not that bad. ;) My dog gets a slice of ham every morning (and apparently also evening) from Dad. I give her a piece of cheese every time I cut cheese. Doesn’t get any fatter.
somebodyshort perhaps zip codes is not a great idea. Everyone wants to keep location private. I do talk to people but some are not interested in speaking. Like my mom she is the worst she doesn’t like to talk out in public.
My body doesn’t like me for chocolates I am slightly allergic to chocolates. I don’t have sever attacks then that would end with chocolate, I use if we have any sparse. I stopped drinking hot chocolate. Fudge mostly is out. If I partake just a small bite or I turn down.
Place I work at someone will occasionaly bring in a dark chocolate cake with chocolate chips and I explain I can’t have any so won’t offend them.
If I did like my mom I would totally stop. I don’t eat very much.
I have to agree about pets. Table scrapes are not great. My hubby gives very little grain cereal against our daughter’s orders to golden retriever, which is over weight.
My vet told me many years ago that green and yellow/orange veggies are great lo cal treats for dogs. My dogs love lettuce, green beans, carrots and pop corn, all in moderation of course. No way can you make a salad without sharing a little, unless it’s a spinach salad. They it spit out.
Hekko…
Ham for dogs…it also has nitrates and nitrites that aren’t good for anybody. And the dog probably weighs lots less than a human, so ounce for ounce, the dog is getting way too much (possible) cancer causing chemicals.
MihirAsher - Here in the US, “biscuit” isn’t the same thing as a “cookie”. A biscuit here is a breakfast bread. My recipe calls for flour, shortening, salt, baking powder and milk. Best eaten with sausage gravy, butter or jelly.
I know that I might live to 100 if I eliminated alcohol entirely from my diet, but I expect to have at least another decade or 2 (to 80s-90s) with my current diet. I have no appreciable amount of sugars or white grains and at least the recomended fruits and veg (not usually organic-$), but have adapted my favorite meals to fit that model and even cut back on soda to 1 or 2 diet (mostly water) and my evening snack is just 1 square of good (over70% cocoa) and sometimes a small bunch of nuts. This all is stuff I can totally enjoy and that IS what life is all about!
My dogs went on a hunger strike about 5 years back. I started mixing their dry dog food (yeah, I know, dry dog food) with mixed veggies with a little real meat and tomato sauce. Happy doggies! The vet has no problem with that.
Reminds me of the couple who die and get into heaven. When they meet again after their brief separation, the hubby tells his wife, “I’m mad at you and won’t talk to you!”
“At least tell me why?”
“If it weren’t for all those bran muffins and salads you made me eat, we could have been here ten years sooner!”

I’m with you, Biscuit. What’s the point if you can’t have the good stuff?

I don’t think ham is a very good idea for dogs. Too much salt.

Hekko, thanks for the warning that you cut cheese. You’re brave to admit that. ;^)

I “justify” eating chocolate by telling myself that it helps me live longer because it’s an antioxidant.
