Well, one of the actors to play Pike is dead, the other long retired from acting. Who was he expecting?

Star Trek creator and producer Gene Roddenberry wrote to him (Jeffrey Hunter) on April 5, 1965:

I am told you have decided not to go ahead with Star Trek. This has to be your own decision, of course, and I must respect it. You may be certain I hold no grudge or ill feelings and expect to continue to reflect publicly and privately the high regard I learned for you during the production of our pilot.

Apparently he wasn’t too upset about not riding the Enterprise bandwagon around the galaxy.

the actor in the picture is NOT Jeffrey Hunter. Roddenberry made the character “horribly disfigured” and “unable to speak” so that he could simply put an extra in a wheel chair of sorts without having to fret over people noticing it wasn’t Hunter in the filler bits of the episodes. so far, Pab, i’m enjoying the week (as i always seem to do). thanks.

Sean Kenney played Pike in the chair, and was on a couple of other episodes as DePaul.
