She maybe sass-mouthing again. But Nancy is right on point. It’s not about admitting she doesn’t know the answer to questions they both know she doesn’t know (sorry, redundant). It’s about helping her find the answer to that question.
Even better than finding the answer to that question (and, for that matter, a totally different thing) is, just like the teacher says, “to admit that she doesn’t know the answer if and when she doesn’t know the answer”. Why is this so important? Because humans tend only too much to make up answers to questions just because they are to pedantic to admit they have no idea what the answer is, or because they feel they are always in position to issue a correct answer, which, actually, is far from being the truth. So there.
One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is to admit you don’t know the answer BUT to at least know where to go to get the answer. It’s okay to tell someone, “That’s a good question, let me find that answer for you and I’ll reach out to you when I do.” Instead of making something up on the fly and having it be wrong.
I recommend to people to use what the internet was made for————research. The more you use it the better you will become at knowing what to put down. When others simply do their work for them they don’t understand how they are not really helping those who need to learn whether it is to fish or to search on the Internet.
