I was raised Catholic and was forced to go to Parochial schools. Luckily, I was able to start thinking for myself. This child abuse is completely out of hand. This should have been dealt with the minute a large group of children was found to be abused. They should not have sat there and thought — if we just pay these people off – we are okay. They should have hired outside people to fully investigate all of their communities and admitted to everything all at once! This would be a joke — if it was not so serious and damaging to the children. The church does deserve the damage it does to them — they did it themselves. Yet, even with the separation of church and state — who are some of the most vocal people to speak out trying to tell the Government to prevent birth control, abortion, etc. They have NO right to tell anyone what is right and wrong! This will continue until they REALLY do clean out the whole church – which may never happen. Any business with this range of child abuse would not be tolerated!!!! It is even worse because it comes from people most of us learned to trust. Totally agree with this depiction today!!
Any institution that believes in divine right and absolute power over the populous….especially the power to subjugate children and women…. will always have those who subvert that power for abusive crimes against human-kind…… The worst attrocities are usually done in the Name of God….. Between the abusive clergy and the money-grubbers, they have managed to disillusion most of my aquaintances and myself.
Unless/until the church hierarchy can convince people that, when such offenses occur, the first priority will not be to protect the church, as it has been, but to protect the children and prosecute the guilty, there can be no trust.
In the past, the church has done everything in its power to protect ITSELF and the members of the hierarchy. This is what needs to change. Little concern was shown for the victims and even less concern for punishing the guilty.
Abusive priests were transferred around the country, in an effort to keep things quiet, but they were not removed from the priesthood, or, in many cases, even prevented from having contact with children in their new parishes.

I would “trust” the Church about as far as I could drop-kick The Vatican!
