The extent of the GOP governing philosophy seems to be “if Obama was for it, we must be against it.”

Many of the resident’s supporters won’t be around as long as most other Americans and don’t care about the environment, healthcare, or other social issues …. while they’re alive.

    " …

Meet The Press merged data from three groups of counties that Trump won by more than 20 points – Graying America, Evangelical Hubs and Working Class Country. Those counties carry some common traits. They are more rural than the other places and tend to have lower incomes and lower college education rates.

There are 1024 counties in that merged group. Trump won 986 of them. And they look very different from the country on some key health measures.

More than 28% of the people in those counties said they have health problems that prevent them from doing things people their age normally can do. In some of those places that was much higher, well over 30%. That’s compared to a national average figure of roughly 22%, according to Gallup surveys conducted in the 3rd quarter of 2016.

    …"

Disgusting Republicans don’t care about the health of the planet or its inhabitants.

All they care about is making a profit no matter what the hidden cost is.

They take away our healthcare then allow companies to pollute our air. Is it great yet?

Obama’s Clean Power Plan was a joke from the word go.

If implemented it would have reduced global temps by 0,02 degrees (F). Dropped the ocean levels by “the equivalent of two sheets of paper,”

At a cost approaching $40 BILLION, double digit % hikes in power bills, etc, etc, etc.

The Carolina Journal is a conspiracy-minded subsidiary of Deniers Inc., not a newspaper.

Mega millionaire Art Pope, the owner of the GOP ‘think tank’ publication Carolina Journal, shares heavy political capital with Charles and David Koch, using wealth from his family foundation to heavily finance groups that are involved in denying the existence, science or seriousness of global warming.

AGW, being proven and accepted worldwide, prompted the notorious ‘propaganda pivot move’ the denier cult is now repeating, ad nauseam, ’we can’t do anything about it’ and ‘we can’t afford to do anything about it’.

Yeah, let’s go back to this… The 1966 New York City smog was an air-pollution event, with damaging levels of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, smoke, and haze. Smog covered the city from November 23 to 26, which was that year’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It was the third major smog in New York City, following events of similar scale in 1953 and 1963.On November 23, a large mass of stagnant air over the East Coast trapped pollutants in the city’s air. For three days, New York City was engulfed in high levels of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, smoke, and haze. Smaller pockets of air pollution pervaded the greater New York metropolitan area, including parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. By November 25, regional leaders announced a “first-stage alert”. During the alert, leaders of local and state governments asked residents and industry to take voluntary steps to minimize emissions. Health officials advised people with respiratory or heart conditions to remain indoors. The city shut off garbage incinerators, requiring massive hauling of garbage to landfills. A cold front dispersed the smog on November 26 and the alert ended. In the months that followed, scientists and doctors studied the smog’s impact. City health officials initially maintained that the smog had not caused any deaths, but it soon became clear that the smog had been a major environmental disaster with severe public health effects. A December 1966 study estimated that 10% of the city’s population had suffered adverse health effects, such as stinging eyes, coughing, and respiratory distress. A statistical analysis published in October 1967 found that 168 people had likely died because of the smog. The smog catalyzed greater national awareness of air pollution as a serious health problem and political issue.Prompted by the smog, President Lyndon B. Johnson and members of Congress worked to pass federal legislation regulating air pollution in the United States, culminating in the 1967 Air Quality Act

“Going back to this” seems to be the GOP plan. It’s still hard to fathom why.

I was in an antique store in 2000 and saw an old Argosy magazine (remember "the man’s magazine?) and the featured article was about problem of air pollution in Los Angeles and other major cities. Scanning the article it stated how important the problem needed to be addressed. BTW, the magazine was dated August 1957.

Why am I stating this? Because if it was an important issue with a Republican President then, why isn’t it now?
