Absolutely beautiful. The wording is so much better than Happy Holidays. Independance Day is a happy holiday and so is Memorial Day. But CHRISTMAS is what it’s all about.
Where is Joseph’s halo? He gets left out/behind a lot, but consider his position. His virgin bride (a normal requirement back then) was very visibly pregnant when they did the vows. He didn’t have to marry her, no matter what the angel from God said, but he did. Remember Joseph, he was very important, too.
Thank you Jim for remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas to all the family here who celebrate and a belated Channukah to my Jewish friends. I look forward to 2011 and Skeezix’s 90th celebration.
Another true masterpiece. Family Circus was also incredible. And, a nice touch to remember Channukah! At the time when Jesus was born, most of the families in Judea who were descended from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob most likely celebrated both Purim and Channukah - so Mary, Joseph and Jesus most likely celebrated both of those festivals while Jesus was growing up in Nazareth. I also love pictures with Joseph in them. Later on, when the wise men were warned NOT to go back to Herod with a report about what they found in Bethlehem, Joseph received another angelic vision, which advised Joseph to pack up Mary and Jesus and get out of town - fast! Not hesitating, Joseph rousted everyone out of bed and headed for Egypt as quickly as possible. Later, when it was safe for Mary, Joseph and Jesus to return to Judea, Joseph received another angelic visit. Joseph had to have been a very special person whom the Lord knew could be depended upon to take the advice which Joseph received from angels seriously. Really very special art work. Packs an incredible amount of meaning into one single panel! In the meantime, Merry Christmas to all and may there be a happy, safe and prosperous New Year around the corner for one and all!

No one in the drawing is particularly Semitic-looking!

Joseph has purple hair. Has he gone punk? What’s next - shepherds with mohawks?
