Control of the press is what all dictators do. Everyday it becomes clear that Trump and the republican congress are trying to control the news/press as is done in Russia and China. I do feel our democracy is under a real threat from this regime.
I see no reason for any real journalist to attend those White House press briefings. It just gives the spokespeople more opportunity to spew their toxic lies.
The really sad thing is that this isn’t even some explicit strategy to dominate the discussion – it’s a combination of being ridiculously thin-skinned and (probably) a recommendation from his good friend Putin.
I should hope then that Fox News shall also be decredentialed. Mr. Giuliani’s appearance put them square in the “fake news” peddling business. Even the President said Mr. Giuliani didn’t know what he was talking about – twice! Obviously, to this administration, only the Second and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States are still binding. The rest of the document is more by way of mere suggestions.
Trump should engage some simple rules for the press conferences. I would suggest that all administrations D and R use these in the future.
1. Questions must be in the form of questions. A question prefaced by a statement of any type will be ignored.
2. Political attacks masquerading as “hypothetical” questions will be called out as such then ignored.
Penalties are based on affiliation, not on the specific journalist. Replacing the offender will not set the score to zero.
1st offense: Journalist will be ignored for the rest of the press conference.2nd offense: Journalist/Organization will be ignored for 90 days.3rd offense: Organization will be ignored for 1 year, all of its resources to be excluded from any govt provided transportation, cameras removed, interviews denied and access to any Executive branch facility or personnel barred.
The WH press secretary has the final word, with no appeal.
Unfortunately, the precedent exists. At the municipal level, the Supreme Court ruled that the police could refuse to issue press credentials without cause. (Warren, Douglas, Black, and Brennan dissenting.)

Shutting out the news media (except for his hand-picket puppets) — shades of Hitler.

Trump, the best puppet president in the history of the world. A little too absurd sometimes, even for a parody. Take note, Putin.

Sean is in trouble. He didn’t say ‘great and glorious master of all MR. Trump’. Saying just Trump has set him on the road to fake news.

Frighteningly accurate depiction of what Trump REALLY WANTS TO DO to the press.

Hannity is better at being a slumlord than news reporting.
