I don’t know which is worse, computer-controlled cars or ones trusted to people who drink, text, eat, etc. while driving.

⇧ i’ll take the computer over the moron who’s trying to slurp hot instant noodles while also manipulating the steering wheel (to give just one example of an actual sighting)…

The program as designed is not particularily good, in large part because it demands expensive and unecessary infrastructure additions.

In part, this is because the best way to have done this was to automate cars for highway only—where the most dangerous accidents occur because it is the number one type of driving people zone out and stop paying attention, and paying attention is something computers are good at and people are not so good at.

But in any case, once you have a car that can drive better than the average driver, you are statistically best off to use it wherever you can.

But trying to get them automated to the city street level is a much harder task (one requested by the military.)

In either case, there will be accidents and fatalities, but you can never be safe, only safer.

Back up cameras are a good idea but caused many deaths as people learned how to use them.
