With its tortured perspective, gritty realism, and outlandish urban humor, Derf’s The City has kept an outsider’s beat on current events, trends and out-there aspects of contemporary culture since 1990. Whether depicting the coarse insanity of modern urban life or the ultra-clean realm of the feature’s only recurring character - White Middle Class Suburban Man - Derf uses dissonant humor to speak up for what he calls "the common schlub."

Or maybe your home is being foreclosed because you bought more than you could afford? Or maybe because you lost your job due to the crap economy? How about some consideration for the dead soldiers instead of whining about your home? How about getting the heck out of the middle east, period? How about we use our own resources and then, maybe, jobs will become fashionable again and you can afford a house?

The Iraq War, aka The War That Paid For Itself. At least that will be how it is written in the red state history books.

@Dee
How about the soldiers whose homes were foreclosed on while they were fighting a false war so we could make snarky comments on a comic website about our patriotism?
Maybe our government’s fealty to securing corporate profits, supporting finance’s outsized greed and maintaining the status quo of the monied elite that wield the power is the issue and not the poor schmuck who thought his assembly line job was secure, good paying and a foot-up on the ladder to the lower-middling-class lifestyle so many have been relegated to.

When Bush invaded, he said that we were not going to do any nation building — and by golly, that’s another promise that he kept.

Or how about the way banks arbitrarily inflated and deflated home values?
Night-Gaunt49 said, about 1 month ago
Did you know that banks are even foreclosing, successful mind you, people who are not in arrears!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only arre banks forecloasing on people who are not in arrears, the scum bag liberals forced banks that were not in danger of failing to takje TARP money to cover the libs’ rears for causing the mess.
singlespeed said, about 1 month ago
@mdavis4183
First….it was Bush and his Treasury Secretary Paulson that created TARP and forced them to accept $ or else. Second the libs didn’t cause the mess. The loose finance markets and banks caused the collapse of the banks. Wall Street has been an equal opportunity briber when it comes to Washington.

Remember back in the days when we were young, and The City was updated weekly? Good times, good times…

Please, some updates! derfcity.com constantly times out – I have not been able to connect to it for months, and this page isn’t getting refreshed either. I need some Derf!

Sorry, dumbass, it was Chris Dodd and Barney Fag who threatened the mortgage industry with legislation if they didn’t start writing loans to people who they knew couldn’t pay them back. all in the name of “faifness”. When the mortgage industry said that they would not be able to stay in business, the libs said, not to worry, we (in the guise of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac) will guarantee all of the loans. The bankers agreed, the taxpeyers paid the bill.
