Actually, my brother got As in school on entertainment value. His papers were not particularly scholarly, but they were very flashy and creative. The teachers gave him As just because he was fun to read.
My son had to do a “Country” report. Choice of country was left up to the student. This was really more about how to do a report than researching a particular country. He chose Hawaii, and covered it up to the U.S. invasion/takeover.
Explorers are boring?!? In what universe? We’re talking about lunatics who set out to find possibly imaginary places and/or things by going in directions that have not been mapped or investigated by anyone they knew. They experienced attacks, starvation, thirst, diseases, storms …
