So that’s why he called it a kind of protection racket. There’s no need to actually hack the computer at this point, though I still wonder if that will come into play later.

I know this is somewhat pointless to say, considering we’re dealing with fiction….but if it were me, he NEVER would have got past the door with that stogie!

Topper travelled all the way to Tracyville, potentially risking his life or freedom all for a common Protection scam? Is he expecting to make millions of dollars on this two bit scheme? That’s almost as unbelievable as his still white teeth!

You would imagine that Topper would use thugs to commit the actual extortion threats and collections. Topper has exposed himself and his appearance to his mark. Either that or he runs a pretty bare-bones operation. (Odd that Green Hornet would be so worried about him if he is so stupid that he reveals his looks and does his own stiff-arm work.)

This makes so little sense, I can’t even figure out how they came up with it. Banks do not rent computer time from private citizens for transfers, the security issues would be huge and it would also make no sense at all for interbank work, as a central authority would need to be involved. Also, there would need to be a lot of people involved to deal with outages and people simply turning off their computers. I love the art, but I think I’m through with this.

Okay, so don’t forget that our guy from Monday said he would be there, but not in sight of anyone else. Maybe for a blackout demonstration?

So… does this guy own a server farm? I really doubt banks use average peoples’ computers like it was the SETI project. Hey, thug?! Ever hear of battery backup?

A code to hack into the bank and just start mopping up partial cents left over from the transactions and in awhile you could have some real money.

That Neil guy has been doing double duty and it is much appreciated by the guy who had been blocked on a misread context. Been lurking for some time and finally got guts enough to jump in the pool.

This story reminds me of a Monty Python sketch, where a coulee of sleazy hoods tried to shake down a British army base. “Nice tanks you’ve got there, mate, be a shame if anything happened to them.” That sketch was about as plausible as this plot twist, & was more entertaining.

Just a simple protection racket—and a one-man (or maybe two, if Johnny is around to provide muscle for Topper) operation? I am not all that impressed or scared, and Lonnie Jarman should just call Topper’s bluff and squash him. If Johnny is on the spot and brings down the smack on Lonnie, at least we’ll have an interesting sub-arc to follow….

BTW, Mike posted some ungood news regarding his health on That Social Networking Site today….

you’re still basically trying to strong arm a bank….messing with their stuff and you KNOW one of these victims is going to come running to them; probably a large bank chain that has the resources to step on the shake down crew like an ant; make an example out of them. And really, that scrawny dude came knocking on my door, I’d have knocked him out and handed him over to Tracy myself……except half of those first 10 he tried to threaten would have beaten me to it……no, this story not believable on a variety of angles. But this strip still comes closer to “perfect” than any other, so it’s all good.
