Trust me, it is more than that guy who doesn’t like the new shirts. This is a oversimplification of the issue, and plays to the racist base, but has little connection to reality.
I am a combat veteran who is proud to be a United States citizen. I think that the United states is one of the best countries to live in, even though is has a long way to go before it is a GOOD place to live. Wrapping oneself in the flag in order to spout hate, bigotry and lies is a disgusting act practiced by those who don’t understand true patriotism.
Clearly this is a two camp argument: people against illegals voting in our elections and those who think they should. It’s also fair to assume that illegals will vote for and are a Democratic voting block so it then becomes a liberal voter drive. Question: if illegals should be allowed to vote in our elections then why should we care if Russia interfered in the 2016 election? They’re both foreigners. Happy Easter.
^This is utter nonsense, Mr. Lester. Your Manichean division is absurd, as no one on this thread or elsewhere has ever suggested that noncitizens should be allowed to vote in federal elections. Can you say “red herring”? Or maybe scream “SQUIRREL!!!” really loudly? The constitution requires a decadal count of “free Persons”, not voters.
Lester has clearly, finally fallen off his nut. I wonder just how non-citizens go about voting in US elections and, if they do find a way, who thinks it is legal or proper ?
Lester wants so badly for progressive thought to be found unConstitutional (indeed, the Constitution is founded on progressive thought) that he’ll grab at any nonsensical, absurd straw.
The more I look at this cartoon, the more ridiculous I find it. Here are a few examples:
1) It appears to suggest that the census will include a question about bowling shirts.
2) I think many a not-yet-citizen would be proud to wear a shirt that says “Citizen”. And there’s nothing illegal about their doing so.
3) But it does also seem to suggest that “citizens” don’t at all mind having an “illegal” on their team. (Somehow, I doubt that was something Mike intended to say.)
4) However, I do see that Lester is suggesting that “illegal” aliens should be required to wear some kind of sign publicly declaring their status.
5) I’ll question even one more time, why doesn’t Mike include at least one person wearing a shirt that says “legal non-citizen”.
First of all, you have to be a citizen to vote. So, there is no debate whether illegal aliens can vote.
Illegal aliens who are sick or injured have to think twice before going to the hospital for the fear of being exposed to the authorities and deported.
In many states when you register to vote you have provide proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate or passport to register to vote.
In NY State, where I live, illegal aliens cannot get a driver’s license and legal aliens get a license that has written in big capital letters on it NON-CITIZEN.
The question is fair representation. Nothing in the Constitution says appropriation of representation should be limited to only the citizen population of the state. Legal aliens pay taxes and contribute to communities they work in and should be counted without being intimidated by the citizenship question on the census.
JAMES, where did you read that, “Democrats want open borders, unrestricted immigration and no voter ID laws so they can bring in hordes of people whom they know will vote Democratic in order to get “free” stuff!” ?
I’m a Democrat and I don’t want that. I know lots of Democrats and I don’t know anyone who wants the things you mention. Where did you read this ?

Lester showing that knowledge of the U.S. Constitution is NOT a requirement for editorial cartoonists!

It’s not about race, it’s about making sure local Govt. gets the resources they need and can make informed decisions.

Gosh, I never realized that the census was about bowling shirts. You learn something every day. Thanks, Lester.

One more time: If you want fewer illegals, prosecute those who hire them.

As a non-combat vet (they sent me to Turkey in 1971-1972) I totally agree.

Yeah, let me know when any Republican makes any effort to prosecute a business that hire illegals, especially a large business.
Ignorance is Strength.

OMG, the businesses got an audit notice!
That’s even more severe than a stern talking-to. How will their families cope?

Scratchy, your knowledge of history is beyond awesome.
