Wakeup call my behind! S—t like this has been happening for ages. The conservatives I personally know don’t really care. They live in our fairly safe, mostly white suburban town confident their not going to get shot at by our all white police department. Hell, a conservative former coworker wore a “blue lives matter” arm bracelet while describing to me the poor electrical work that was done in his work area as “n-gger rigged.”
To those of us who don’t believe in white privilege, imagine this happening to a white person in a white neighborhood.
And, yes, I’m sure someone can come up with anecdotal cases of a white person in a similar tragedy. But does anyone doubt that the overwhelming number of victims are young men of color?
Just a thought: If the country were not awash in firearms, would the police be so likely to shoot so readily and frequently? As far a that goes, would private citizens be so likely to pull out a gun and shoot in interpersonal altercations (like road rage)? And how often would someone with suicidal thoughts have time to seek help before pulling the trigger against himself? Do y’all feel safer yet with all those guns?
There is not a separate breed of human beings that are called police. They are us and we are them. These people, who happen to work as police officers (for? us), are trained and mentored to do exactly what they do.
We all need to wake up and take control of this ‘situation’. Police can shoot to kill any of us at any time and get away with it scott free. How many must die before we refuse to accept this legalized police-state we live in?
The Sacramento officers who shot Stephon Clark muted their bodycams before firing 20 rounds at him. Those police should have criminal charges brought against them.

Twenty shots? Did they take time to slip another magazine in to make sure there was nothing left twitching?

Is this where the term ‘cop out’ comes from? No excuse for this AT ALL!

I am so old, I can remember when lynch mobs used numbers instead of badges for protection.

And it happened in his grandparents’ backyard, not a back alley or a street corner drive-by. Location, location, location….
