I see that wet lab smell of Louie’s has already started odoriferously filling the atmosphere.

I bet your Golden retriever is missing being with you, too! Would be interesting to know what memories they hold dear, too. He probably wishes he could be there to play hide and seek with his small toys you gave him.

Forget the “Ka”; it’s the “Boom” you have to worry about!

It’s the “boom” part that makes him want to be under the nearest bed.

I think that dogs pick up on our fears. My wife lived through a massive tornado outbreak in 1980 and has feared storms ever since. The dogs are fine around me, but around her they freak out.

That’s OK, Louie. Some of those boomers make me jump, too! And when they do I appreciate having a dog handy who just happens to need a hug, too.

We had a border collie, Teddy, who was terrified of thunderstorms and gun shots. Our vet told us it was probably because she was born in the early spring, just before storm season.

This reminds me of a friend’s story about how, as kids, he and his brother had bedrooms upstairs in their house. And they had a family dog who was not allowed upstairs. But once when a sudden storm broke out their mother shouted at the kids to “go up and make sure the windows are closed.” This happened more than once and the dog decided it was the thing to do, following the brothers upstairs, but came back down when they did. Another time when thunder clapped, nobody jumped to run upstairs (windows were closed) but the dog did, and then from the top step looked back down at everyone, wondering why no one else was coming.

Yup—those BOOMS will get ya if you’re not careful. Looks like Louie was pretty traumatized, too, with his eyes bugging out. Hang in there, buddy …

    Good Evening, Crew.

Surprised to hear about Labs being scared of loud noises. They’re retrievers, typically bred to tolerate the sound of guns nearby. None of our three were ever worried … Our herding dogs, however …
