I wouldn’t have the bird-bath so far out. First it would be hard to see the birds. But more importantly, that far out the little birds would become easy targets for Cooper’s Hawks. I’ve seen their ambush tactics used many time before around my apartment. Bird-baths need to be near some type of cover so the little birds can have someplace to hide when trouble come their way.
A little female Leaden Flycatcher used to come to a drum of water and sing beautifully for me to come outside and open up the lid of the drum so that she could bathe and have a drink. It was quite special. I know how Jimbo feels.
