“In their book _Hollywood Kryptonite_, Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger make a case for the involvement of Toni Mannix, the wife of MGM vice president and fixer Eddie Mannix, with whom Reeves had been having an affair.”
I like these Minit Mysterys. They’re a fun pause between the main stories, and having guest artists do them adds to the interest. I like the throwback feel, too.
Per the movie HOLLYWOODLAND, George Reeves was having an affair with Toni Mannix, the wife of MGM exec Eddie Mannix. The name change is obvious, but why “Cannon”? Think of two popular tv detectives in the 70’s. Hint: Mike Connors and William Conrad!
Freckled, youthful-looking Jerry Lennox, a.k.a. Sidekick Jackie, introduces more suspects into the mix of the George Reeds, a.k.a. Ultraman, death investigation. Jilted ex-lover Toni Cannon has an obvious motive, while her dodgy, sinister husband, Eddie “the Beast” Cannon, would seem to have all the contacts needed to arrange for a professional hit.
(The references and allusions to the actual case of George Reeves and to the people involved are too numerous to catalogue here and in any case have been covered in previous comments by our knowledgeable board members!)
Tracy has only three more days (Thursday-Saturday, not more than nine panels, with up to as many as six suspects under scrutiny) to reach a conclusion that he can make known on Sunday!

I wonder will the makers of the real Ultra Man sue for trademark infringement? And does anyone else find this artist’s drawings creepy?

When does this story take place? I was under the impression that it was more or less the modern day but I guess its taking place in the 50s/60s?

I wonder if Toni Cannon is George Reeds publicist or agent ?

Wish the guest artists could do a 1950’s comic book character style. Plain, simple, “description bubbles” ,etc.

I have a question about gocomics. I see some of you are gcinsiders. What does that designation mean, how do you come by it and what does it get you?

I’m not sure it was the smartest idea to devote a week or so of strips to obscure Hollywood trivia.

Does anyone know if DT is still featured in the Chicago Tribune?
