President Truman didn’t end WWII, he presided over the end of WWII. The war was ended by the sacrifices of others and the policies of the previous Commander in Chief. That said, however, President Truman was one of the most honest, direct, and modest persons ever to hold that office. At the other end of that spectrum is … the current office-holder.
Had I been of age before 1956, I probably would have voted for HST. I liked what I read of him in what passed for ‘news media’ in that period.
There has been no one since who seemed to have his strength of character and purpose, despite the mixed results of his efforts, many of which were thwarted by the same kind of political divisions as now exist.
