After eating quite a few beets my little brother told Mum “Look! I’m peeing Kool-Aid!”

Be aware it not just foods that can cause dramatic changes in urine colour, It can also be an symptom of very serious health issues.

Approximately 20 years ago I went to the bathroom first thing in the morning and I was shocked to the core when I noticed my urine was the colour of dark red wine.

I immediately grabbed a sterile container and dashed to the doctor and after a few weeks of very thorough testing I was diagnosed with a type of Kidney disease known as IgA nephropathy (Berger’s disease).

Renal Specialists do not have any specific course of treatment to offer as it an Autoimmune disorder, They monitor your health carefully an it’s a waiting game to see if you will develop Renal failure or not.

I decide to look at alternative therapies for this and discovered that a few small scale studies indicated that people whom had an early diagnosis of this disease and were treated with very high doses of Omega-3 fish oil had lower risk of progression to Renal failure and so I began taking it as soon as possible to reduce my chance of developing Renal failure or serious health issues.

For 20 years now my condition has remained stable and not progressed and all indications are that I will be likely avoid serious Renal failure in the long term.

I am personally convinced the Omega-3 fish oil has been helpful in preventing the progression of this disease.

Dark yellow or orange: carrots.Green: asparagus.Pink or red: beetroot, blackberries, rhubarb.Brown: fava beans, rhubarb.A bright yellow color is likely due to vitamins, specifically, B vitamins and beta carotene. Green or blue. … Your urine might also be green or blue due to food dyes or, possibly, a urinary tract infection (UTI).
