Donuts: Correct me if I’m wrong (it’s been many years) but as I recall, Jesus spoke against the Pharisees who conflated religion with government, and the Sadducees who took Scripture literally and missed the spiritual, conflating religion with science and history, and the money-lenders in the temple who conflated religion with finances. In short, all the things the Evangelicals ascribe to. And Jesus said nothing at all against abortion or gay marriage, which the Evangelicals oppose. I think we’re seeing a pattern here.
