Gosh, I am old! I remember stopping to watch an organ grinder and his monkey. My grandmother gave me a dime to give to the monkey, and when I stooped down to put it in his hand I tried to pat him on the head. (I learned much later than most organ grinders used female monkeys, as they are less aggressive – and you didn’t have curious children asking “What’s that on his tummy?”)
