Seems Elly was behind with the trends. She wasn’t aware men go to hair salons also, not just to the barber.

I guess Elly has never been to a Unisex hair place before? Back in 1989, the concept would not have been new, but it wasn’t that old either. I think Supercuts started in the mid-70s.

I’m ex Navy. While I don’t keep my hair militarily short. I do keep it fairly short. Easier to manage that way.

These strips are from 1989…. Haven’t checked for a while but they first ran pretty close to the same month and day as now, but 29 years ago…

Perms on men were old news…. probably already declining in popularity,

as women’s perms had mostly already moved from big fluffy heads to long silky spirals.

PBS art instructor Bob Ross, painter of “happy little trees” started wearing his huge “afro” style perm…. which, BTW, he came to hate… in the very early 80’s.

By the 90’s it was really out of style, but he didn’t want to change, because it had become his trademark.

Anyway…. just wanted to say I posted late yesterday, about stylists eating lunch during a perm…

in case anybody is still interested, especially those who commented about the sanitary aspects,

or the possibility of clients getting food in their hair…

    I explained, from my experience.

Apparently he’s not having his beard colored. A few months ago, I saw a man getting the gray color out of his goatee.

Apparently what the Barbarians sang about in 1965 still applied nearly a quarter century later (the record collectors will get that; if you don’t look it up, at least you’ll enjoy the song…..).

I’ve never understood the concept of women sitting talking to perfect strangers under the dryer or any public places such as doctor’s office or in lines. Elly started talking about whether women style their hair to please the men in their lives to a perfect stranger? Me? I just sit and read my magazine quietly. If anyone starts being chatty, I’d tune her out to discourage her. I understand making polite conversations on plane as you are touching your arms and legs with your aisle mates and perhaps making few general comments before opening your computer, turning on your mobile or putting on headset and tune out from there on. I guess some people will talk to anybody – I consider those overly friendly whom I am not quite receptive of. Introvert much? Yep.
