    The term “Hoosier” was in general use in the State by 1840, long before the Civil War and the confederacy. We are the only State in the Union whose official nickname does not include some form of the their State’s name and are still joking about it’s origins. We are the only state in region that is not mired in debt. Yes, we’ve had some not so nice moments in history just like everyone else and we don’t claim to have all the answers, but our citizens our friendly, resourceful and innovative. Many of the things you use every day and take for granted were invented and originally manufactured here. Don’t believe me? Look it up and come to the “Crossroads of America” and enjoy some “Hoosier Hospitality.”
