The rethuglicans have made it quite clear that there is no working together. That is a pipe dream, though a nice idea. Until we can re-educate those who support the GOP (and that is going to take an attitude change to reject the racism that leads to their irrational hatred of President Obama) there is no working together. Like the President said, we cannot let our enemies win.
