This brings to mind the oft-used pain scale of 1 to 10. I hear people talking of their pain being a ten; but I believe they don’t understand the concept. A ten was illustrated in an old Sherlock Holmes movie, wherein the murderer exposed his victims to a venomous spider whose bite was so painful they committed suicide immediately. That’s a TEN.
