A great deal of effort, research and thought went into establishment Christianity and I respect that very much. I do not see this in the DIY born-again Evangelicals or Dominionists and their “the end justifies the means” ideology which allows ignoring evil -- it can be forgiven -- to get to their end. Their “end” is fulfillment of dubious ancient prophesies?
For at least 50 years, the GOP has depended on the religious right to fund their campaigns and staff their campaign offices. They have been able to accomplish this by frequently declaring that they were in favor of all of the issues that were important to the religious right ( abortion, school prayer, etc) Then once they were elected, they forgot about those issues, or used them for bargaining chips to get what the 1%ers wanted. Next election, however, they again began declaring their support, and the RRs came back to staff the campaign offices and donate what they could, which was a pittance beside that of the GOPs actual base. You would think after 50 years when the country moved further and further away from the ideals of the RRs that they would have learned, but they haven’t. Trump may be sufficiently disgusting in his declaration of support for their ideals combined with his personal immorality to make everyone else turn to anything else, but the RRs will be the last people to give up on him. Fifty years of stupidity can’t be cured in one year, or even four.
I don’t think the evangelicals have read their own book of the apocalypse, Revelations of John. It is quite clear in stating that the antichrist will emerge from the eternal sea (politics). Unfortunately, they seem to yearn for the end times to come so they are hoping he is the one. Seems every fundamentalist I have ever met has worshipped at the alter of the apocalypse instead of living their lives in service to each other as their God instructed. Even though I don’t adhere to their faith I do read their doctrines and listen to their points of view which I will say the contradictions confuse me at times.
Evangelical and other religious zealots teach some truly heinous nonsense which is how Republicans keep getting elected. This explains why the school vouchers are so important to Repubs. BTW, note that this report EXCLUDES Catholic schools since most teach REAL science and in my experience, even teach REAL information about other religions.

How many Trump Disciples actually believed Obama was born in Kenya?
How many still believe it?
Hint: It’s bigly tons more than will admit it.

I often wonder if Trump is actually leading his base, or if they are just a bunch of bigots pointing at Trump and shouting, “What he said.”
