Risky strategy. No list, no present(s).

Always a risk taker, that Caulfield. Just off a losing streak to Mrs. Olsen and now trying on his parents? The kid is betting on full house while holding only a 4 card hand.

Finally got the right side icons back. Were available on other pc’s and even on – bleah – Internet Explorer. Tried restoring pc to earlier setting. Finally reurned Firefox to defaults and that fixed it.

So apologies to gocomics, and thank you to those who offered thoughtful suggestions.

Isn’t he a little old for Santa Claus? I thought he was about 10 or so.

Yet another reason, as if I needed any more, that I’m glad I never had children.

Well, at least he’s being honest about not wanting to behave. Although surprised there isn’t the usual comment in here about all of that being the result of his hypergenius being too much for our mere mortal world to contain. (And then complain that it’s just a comic strip, and people shouldn’t take it so seriously)

I’m seriously straining the limits of willing suspension of disbelief here. Not just the idea that an 8-year-old would need to be pressured to write up a Christmas list, but the idea that parents would be the ones to pressure him. That’s what television and pop-up ads are for!

The whole Christmas-list thing is actually charming to visit retrospectively. I don’t think my parents ever pressured me to make a wish list, but I know I made them. And I also know this, and it’s why I suspect my parents never pressured me to make a list: My gift haul and my wish list correlated no better than what a statistician would label “random.” And the most awesome gifts, the ones I remember best, I never knew existed before I got them, let alone in time to put them on any list.

Which on the one hand would seem to affirm just how perceptive this Santa Claus dude is. Then again, on the other hand, gifts that nice suggested he way overestimated how well-behaved I was.

I still remember the time — I had ABSOLUTE, IRREFUTABLE proof that Santa Claus was real. I was in 2nd grade, already wise to the “helper” Santa at the department store (evidence — they always asked you your name). It was the last day of school before Christmas Vacation (still called that at the time…). Just before recess our class had a visitor, complete with bells chiming and “HO! HO! HO!” a-plenty. When it was my turn on his lap, he called me by name, asked about my sister by name and even knew my dog’s name! How could any “helper” have that kind of inside information? It was the REAL DEAL for sure.It was two years later when my older sister spoiled that dream. Our visitor from the North Pole was in truth, a visitor from the Principal’s Office. Oh well, I still got my Beany-and-Cecil game board that magic year.
