Last week, a strip topic about a lost gun, this week, a strip about immigration. Can’t these topics wait until after the holidays?! (Better yet, can’t these topics just go away?!)
Yeah, and they make the police look like a thug. He must be looking for the poor helpless immigrants that killed the border patrol officer last week with rocks and left the other in critical condition.
Consider the plight of people such as ANTIQUETRACMAN for a moment. They ‘assume’ the higher moral ground by railing against those “illegals” who broke American law by entering America without proper permission, even if they were merely trying to better their lives and/or the lives of their families. And yet, odds are better than even that those ‘moral high-grounders’ have been guilty of breaking those same American laws by ‘speeding’ while operating a vehicle or crossing a street somewhere other than a designated crossing area or not coming to a full and complete stop at every stop sign! In absolute terms the only difference between “Jay-walking” and “Murder in the First” is just one of degree; they’re BOTH illegal! Some of us are just intelligent enough to recognize the difference in “crimes”, and some of us pick and choose which we wish to rail against and which we chose to ignore and understand that “Judgement” should be leavened with “Tolerance and Understanding!”
It may come as a shock to many of you, because it doesn’t fit your preconceived ideas of how an illegal alien got here, but the vast majority of undocumented immigrants are people who have entered the country legally but have outstayed their visa requirements. Sorry to disappoint the Great Wall of Trump enthusiasts but ( and I lived for many,many years in the Southwest ) hoards of undocumented immigrants are not braving the treacherous border crossings into the U.S. in the dead of night. They fly in on a visitor’s visa, temporary work visa, or student visa, and ….. stay.
As long as the businesses who employ them are free to employ them there will be a problem unless more people like our president get in control and then they will leave regardless of the jobs. And then the walls will be built on the money saved from destroying what safety net we do have. $880 billion can pay for a wall and soldiers and means of watching and killing anyone trying to leave. No one but the Fascists of the world, Phalangists and so on will want to come.
Oh, let me be more clear: The strip I was referring to was Over The Hedge, for which the storyline last week was about a lost gun RJ and Verne found. This week, it’s Baldo and this one’s about immigration. Here we are about to celebrate the birthday of our lord and savor Jesus Christ in a month and things like guns and immigration have to come up!
