Once again, 10 years ago, a blog entry accompanied this strip:

Japanese girls sit that way quite a lot – it’s even called “Onna no ko zuwari (女の子座り)” – “girls’ sitting position”. Having said that – some people blame it for the (so I gather) high incidence of bow-leggedness among Japanese girls…

that’s a myth. Bow legs are genetic, not made. But back to Alice’s point. I was considered a funny kid, and I hated it. My parents and sister were always laughing at something I said and I didn’t know why. It did made me feel very self conscious. I recall many times not asking questions because I didn’t have the exact adult wording that wouldn’t make them laugh at me.

Not all kids can sit like that. I noticed at a young age that kids who could sit like that could not sit in full lotus position, and visa versa. I was a lotus kid.

Luckily, Peter intervened with this self-consciousness-generating thoughtless remark just before Alice’s toy car ran over that hapless doll lying there so forlornly!

As ever, Petey demonstrates why he is my hero and role-model, even though I am many multiples of his age….
