Not credible – wise cats leave the raccoons alone or run and hide when they come about (my cats have apparently negotiated peace treaties with all the local wildlife – raccoons, groundhogs, skunks, possums – and the only fights I hear are with feral cats).
Unwise cats become dead cats – raccoons will tear up a dog weighing in at 10X their own weight, much less an underweight cat.

Raccoons around here will tear UP a cat in a fight. On the other hand the local cats basically ignore them. Discretion is the better part of valor.

We have a few feral cats around here that keep the rat population down. No one messes with them.
