Or do like Switzerland, you can have guns but no ammo. Ammo is issued only as needed for target practice at certified firing ranges or for National Guard Training. I think it’s a good idea.
At at time when America had no army the 2nd amendment made sense. Now it doesn’t. Our oversize military can certainly protect us as a nation. It is the individual who claims to need a gun for self-defense against (imaginary?) enemies that seems to be driving the market. My mom and uncle taught me how to use a gun for hunting on their parent’s farm, but when I moved to the city, I had no need. I can understand collectors and hunters having a need, but to ward off imaginary horribles?
If you talk gun ownership in terms of “need”, then there is no discussion where agreement is capable of being reached. You don’t “need” cars either.
Go ahead, keep blaming America’s mental health crisis on inanimate objects, one political party, and a lobbying organization and see how that works for you.
GUN CONTROL MEANS HITTING WHAT YOU ARE AIMING AT! ADVOCATES OF GUN CONFISCATION USUALLY HAVE WELL-ARMED PRIVATE SECURITY OR POLICE PROTECTION FOR THEIR VERY IMPORTANT LIFE PROTECTION! YOU & ME, NOT SO MUCH! SO, I’LL KEEP MY GUNS AND MY SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
@NANCE that’s the hardest part about arguing with irrational people on the subject of gun control. They do not differentiate between gun control and confiscation. They cannot see the difference. Rational people understand that gun control means regulation and restriction. Rational people are not proposing confiscation. Irrational people who panic at the sound of the “gun control” only hear “confiscation” and immediately stop listening. So it is no use trying to explain the difference. And Congress doesn’t care because the NRA pays them plenty to do nothing.
I almost get the feeling that “need” is some political code word that I’ve been unaware of. I believe that most people I know use it synonymously with "want’ or “desire” and that’s how I think of it.
Cars and guns are mechanisms that use a leveraging pedal or trigger to (hopefully) control an explosive force to propel a piston or bullet which exerts far greater force than a human powered projectile could exert … a human powered vehicle cannot speed past a car nor can a human throw a projectile at the speed of a bullet. There should be instruction for the controlled use, storage (cars can roll if not in park and loaded guns can discharge if dropped) and maintenance of mechanisms to avoid accidents. There are long established precedents of licensing and regulations to preemptively deter irresponsible people from misusing these mechanisms and at least for cars, laws confiscating them from irresponsible people using them improperly . While bats and knives are manual, human powered passive devices they too can be used as weapons though they are widely used for sports, hobbies and at work.

There is no reason that EITHER a gun should be taken from a responsible, licensed gun owner, OR a person should have to fear being injured/killed by a gun, OTHER THAN a congress that is not doing its job of deliberating, compromising and legislating for “We the People”.

You know, Molina might be on to something. There’s nothing in the second amendment that says that guns have to be capable of firing…

If the NRA is paid enough they will advocate for something along this line.

67% of Americans want some sort of gun control.
Republicans don’t care, stop voting for them.

JLMJDM60, first thing- learn to turn off CAPS. Then, learn the difference between gun control and confiscation.
