The pornography conveyors — the artistic to the vulgar — will always be with us as long as the human sexual impulse remains. How many people owe their existence to the stimulation they provided?
Now that GoComics has (finally!) given us “Like” buttons, I find myself wondering if their algorithm for identifying the “Featured Comment” will take those into account, or if it’ll just continue to be the one that most people dislike.
Yes, I read the articles, and was even published in the magazine. Hef yes, objectified women, but he was also a leader in women’s rights issues, a long time ago, and his DAUGHTER was put in charge of the company for a long time. Hefner was actually a “mixed message” indeed, but it wasn’t just about naked women, and in fact total nudity is now out, so those pictures being posted of Melania’s modeling days wouldn’t be in?
I do not know whether to mourn for the man or his ideals or his morals or his magazine. But he actually did do some good when it comes to women’s rights. In the 1950s women were basically chained to their kitchens as a reaction to the pendulum swings back and they lost all of the advantages they had gained during World War II. Hefner’s magazine got them back out of the kitchen. Ahhhhh, don’t say it. He might have got them in front of more cameras with less clothes but his articles were a mixture of philosophy and liberalism. The country’s attitude changed a good deal because of his magazines. Sexual freedom is not all bad. When I look at countries like Saudi Arabia I thank God for the freedom we have here, Hugh Hefner was a big part of that. Rest in peace, Mr. Hefner.

Well, he will be next to Marilyn Monroe for as long as the mausoleum lasts.

And once again, throngs of men despaired when they heard the words, “The rabbit died.”
