Details, details. They’re like a free bonus in BCN. Today I’m loving the depiction of a sugar skull. And of course, this is the season. And the robber mouse traveling in the space between the apartment above and the one below. This reminds me of my own little “ceiling dweller” of some years past. When I was at Emory University, I had a small apartment in a private home. When winter arrived, I began to hear odd noises. Something small seemed to be rolling across the floor of the attic space above. All winter long, at random hours of day and night, I could hear roll, tumble, roll, bump against a wall… and then the same in reverse till another wall was encountered, bump. I never got to see “who” was doing this, but I’m pretty sure I know. The local gray squirrels were hunkered down with winter food stores, though they do not actually hibernate. One, I am sure, was in my attic, enjoying the relative warmth, amusing itself by rolling a pecan or a black walnut from end to end of the space. Occasionally a visitor would ask me how I could stand it going on and on, how I could sleep. For me, it was like having company, amusing and actually soothing as I began to think of it as white noise. I was sorry for it to end when warmer weather arrived… but it resumed in subsequent winters for as long as I lived there.
I removed my earlier comment because somebody felt it was a spoiler. I’m sorry. Since the character I mentioned is shown in the “Meet the Reporters” I assumed it was ok to mention her, but I didn’t check closely enough to see she wasn’t mentioned by name. I apologize. I’ve tried really hard not to be a spoiler and I’m sad somebody thought I was.
BCN with all the little visual tidbits tucked here and there reminds me of Graham Oakley’s Church Mouse books. We had most of these and they were favourite bedtime stories for my daughter, so were read repeatedly. The illustrations were full of little visual jokes and vignettes off in the corners and I was always finding new ones to laugh at. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Church_Mice_series)
I’m so delighted everyone is happy to see Tabitha!! I’m so happy she’s back, I hope you are too if you’ve been reading for a while. If you’re a new reader, I hope you’ll like her!
Tabitha is a role model of grace and strength for kittens everywhere. She should give inspirational talks at waterbowls, knitting groups, feather duster assembly plants, and anywhere else kittens gather.

Good thing they’re all males. Tabitha would have to vanquish any strange females, right?

I spy with my little eye … a robber mouse stealing Halloween candy! That’s a nice touch to have a Día de Los Muertos mask beside Tabitha :)

How can she tell they’re all males? Elvis I get, he’s Siamese, so his voice gives him away.

No wonder they can hear each other so clearly, there’s no insulation whatsoever in between those floor joists.
