Rush was purposely quoted. He doesn’t mind lying to his fans so that they take foolish risks. A really hateful man.

Limbaugh did not call Irma a hoax, as some have claimed, but he did say the media exaggerates weather-related dangers. And of course he has lied (or been stunningly ignorant) about global warming relentlessly now for years, so there’s that.

If critical thinking was an important part of the primary education system in America, liars and scammers would have a much harder time making a living and perhaps Rush would not have a net worth of about 500 million dollars.

It’s for sure Rush Limbaugh never studied Socrates because he doesn’t believe in searching for the truth only in perpetuating myths and lies.

I read enough of Limbaugh’s idiot comments to realize that he is not an idiot, but he knows that his followers are idiots.

The “Big Water” tirade: There may be some truth to complaining that most Americans don’t really need to drink bottled water most of the time. But in the context of a disaster, it’s a silly argument. Water sources can be polluted in disasters. You could boil water to kill some critters, filter it with some makeshift filters, etc. But the first part of that assumes you have a source of energy to do the boiling. And the second part, that you have a clean “filter.” Bottled water is, for most people, an excellent choice. So Bimbo’s tirade is stupid when a disaster is coming.

But then Dimbo goes on to attack global warming, or rather Al Gore. No one should confuse global warming science with political ambition, but the right loves to conflate the two.

Actually, Rush clarified the point that his show was “entertaining”, NOT “informative” several years ago when a ‘pesky’ reporter kept pushing him on why he he was purposefully making “misstatements of fact” (lies) on his show. Rush took umbrage with that characterization, since,as Rush took pains to explain, all he had a need to be was entertaining! If his ‘loyal’ fans chose to believe any of the “pearls” he cast before them, well he couldn’t help THAT, now, could he? It was all spoken in ‘jest’!

Dimbo can ridicule Gore all he wants as far as I am concerned. Gore is not a scientist.

But Dimbo then tried to say that climate scientists are following the Gore Gospel about hurricanes. This is untrue. The science says that warmer waters are going to facilitate more rainfall in coastal areas. You saw proof of that if you looked at the sudden growth of Harvey to the south of Texas. It had looked to be dissipating. Then, Boom! All made possible by increasingly warm Gulf of Mexico waters. Also hitting Cuba diminished Irma a bit, but it has been crossing the warm Gulf Stream and picking up strength.

But let’s be clear: the creation of individual storms do not prove global warming. They are always dependent on many conditions. And at this time, there is no clear, unambiguous sign that there is an increase in the strength and number of hurricanes.

Arguing that Harvey and Irma are proof of global warming is at the same level of nonsense as those who argue that their cold winter (maybe due to a “polar vortex” event) is proof that GW is fake. BTW, cartoonists are not climate scientists, either.

Your memory of events is always skewed. It’s human nature. That’s why science keeps records. Like these:

    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/E11.html

The above does not include 2017, but we are at 12 named storms, so far, 5 of which are hurricanes, and 3 of which are major.

The average number of named storms from 1968 thru 2016 was 12, the average number of hurricanes about 6, and 2 major hurricanes per year. At this point (while Jose and Katia are still developing), the count is 12, 5, and 3.

In terms of the Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures thecombined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, activity in the Atlantic basin so far in 2017 (as of September 1) has been near average.

But global warming means global. Including oceans. And they are warmer. For that reason, the National Hurricane Center has predicted (using science and not pulling something out of their enormous butt, like Dimbo) that the 2017 Hurricane season would be above average.

In May, they predicted an above-normal 2017 Atlantic hurricane season – with two to four storms Category 3 or stronger. One more big one to go. Of course, there might not be another Cat 3 or larger, or there might be two. The science is not that exact, and hurricanes, as I said, depend on lots of factors.

    But:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration based its forecast on the a number of factors, including above-normal ocean surface temperatures.

And this is not an El Niño year.

So don’t be a Dimbo, and don’t be a panicker. Learn the science.

And if you need a reason, consider the wisdom of the saying:

If you think safety is expensive, try an accident.

    and even more so with

If you think preparing for disaster is expensive, try not preparing for disaster.

    Which leads to me to:

If you think preparing or preventing climate change is expensive, try living with it.

Baslim: WONDERFUL and informative comment! You took a complex subject and simplified it without skipping the major factors. I wonder how many will dispute your statements.

Oh, and btw, the republican administration is trying to hide data from you if it refers to climate change. See the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center:

The deniers don’t want you to see this data. It might educate you.

    http://cdiac.ornl.gov/

“F” the republican liars, I will be downloading that public data, as will be others.

Being prepared for the worst has always been the most optimistic way to live. My mom used to try and tell me that I was a pessimist. I told her that I was an optimist because if nothing went wrong I was always so pleasantly surprised but if something did go wrong then because it was prepared for no one was out anything and nothing was really wrong. Maybe that’s it’s twisted but I considered that being optimistic.

Bottled water might be expensive compared to tap water but after all of the scandals over the years like Flint I’ll stick with my bottled water. I buy it in bulk and pour it into a reusable aluminum container. It’s not like I’m littering the landscape with plastic bottles. Of Course, who knows my water company could be ripping me off and selling me Flint water.
