Yeah, imnotreal, that one irks me, too. Funny how folks would never dream of saying, “The conductor struck his baton on the podium and brought the orchestra to attention,” because they recognize a conductor truly has a podium upon which he might strike his baton … if he were aiming to be laughed out of the concert hall.
