When I was in high school band, we used to compete in Rosemead, CA. We had won the sweepstakes award at that parade every year since our school started competing, so we felt that we “owned” that street. One of the guys pulled up a chunk of asphalt and brought it back to the band room. The director, who had a sense of humor, put it on a shelf for display and as far as I know it is still there some 50 years later.

The phone guys used to give us strands of wire, in all their different colors and patterns. We’d make rings out of them, and such.
