Well, Omar, you got that complaint off your chest to your co-worker. Now say it to your uncle/employer.

About 6 years ago I was helping my husband look for jobs online. It’s a job in itself! Between all the applications, “personality tests” many companies are using in their application process, and other forms of tests, my husband would spend a few hours every day going through it. This didn’t include the time it takes to go to the one or two interviews he got during this time.

I always found it easier to find a job when I was already working.

Likewise, as an employer, I was inclined to ‘head hunt’ employees from the competition, or hire someone already working, rather than hire someone who’d been unemployed for a lengthy period of time.

One of my exceptions to the rule was a young guy, who had a 3 year employment gap on his job application. When I asked him about it, he said he doing a continuing education program – in a Federal Prison !

Since his 3 year stint involved marijuana and not larceny or embezzlement, I hired him. He proved to be an excellent employee and a real asset to the company. He took over my position, when I left and just retired as a CEO of another corporation.

This is why you never hire your relatives

We hired temp employees during planned shutdowns. One year I had a guy who seemed to be a gem of a guy to pull in off the street. Put him as leader/ramrod of a crew I had. One day he didn’t show up. Seemed to have disappeared. Then read in the paper he was found in a motel a few miles away, after robbing a bank. You really can’t tell.

The best thing about hiring Relatives is you know what you are getting, the Worse is you know what you are getting!
