Can’t say I feel sorry for her. She stood by for years and was the object of his disdain, but kept pining for him. It should have been no surprise to her that his motives were not altruistic. She should be happy he got her out of a probable death sentence and let it go at that.
As I read all these thoughtful, earnest, sober comments, I ponder: is anyone out there laughing? Chortling? Giggling? Chuckling? A faint snort, perhaps? Or is that too uncool to share these days?

Until the marriage is consummated, I believe it can be annulled by either side at their convenience. So, no harm, no foul.
