Article in the FailingNewYorkTimes today on this bout. Seems the boxing commission gets a cut of the proceeds for approving this fiasco: likely $1.2 million. No conflict of interest there. And it’s dangerous: “In June, Tim Hague, 34, a mixed martial artist turned boxer, sustained fatal injuries during a bout against Adam Braidwood in Edmonton, Alberta. It was Hague’s fourth pro boxing match after competing in 34 M.M.A. fights.”It seems to be to be a bit like Michael Jordan taking up baseball and batting against Roger Clemens — if Clemens was throwing beanballs.

I’ll pa$$ on the PPV for thi$ one. Mayweather is unbeaten in no small part because he’s been effective at avoiding getting hit while getting just enough punches of his own in to outpoint opponents. McGregor’s “sport” doesn’t have defensive fighters so he’s never had to fight someone running away from him like Floyd will.

Even if I were rich and/or stupid enough to fork over a hundred bucks to watch this fight fiasco on PPV, all the ridiculous hype and hoopla leading up to it, turns me off.

I can think of better ways to waste $100 !

The way this fight has been overhyped, it would have to be Hughes-Penn II, Ali-Frazier III, and the Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl all rolled up into one to live up to it.
