I think it’s a metaphor for the NFL’s position on brain injuries — they keep saying that more research needs to be conducted, essentially kicking the can (brain) down the road (field) — a punt might have been a better choice. Of course, the NFL has been saying this for years and will continue to use it as a delay tactic knowing full well that nothing can be done to eliminate brain damage short of playing flag football.
An excellent book is Counting the Days While My Mind Slips Away by Ben Utecht. He was a major league football player, and describes his life after numerous concussions. It is both entertaining and frightening.
It’s entertainment. I agree that ALL entertainers are probably paid more than their worth to Society but to pick on one type while you ignore others that you are fond of is pure hypocrisy.
So, do people get all excited reading the Stock Market reports every morning, seeing how their huge conglomerate corporation did against someone ELSE’S huge conglomerate corporation? So why do they get excited if one Businessman’s corporate asset “Wins” against ANOTHER Businessman’s corporate asset on any Sunday? That’s ALL Pro Football is, one business against another business.

It only seems melodramatic until you’ve had a brain injury.
