I seem to remember a study showing that if the kid bought the car it lasted something like 3 years longer.

Ah, basic mistake. He SHOULD have asked; “Dad, MAY I have a car?”. To which dad would have IMMEDIATELY said “NO!”

My Dad did purchase my first car for me, then proceeded to charge me 4% interest until I paid him back. The payments were due each payday.

In 1957 i was 15 and bought my 1st car a 1951 Packard for $100.00 and paid my own insurance . When i turned 16 a month later my dad took me to get my drivers permit which was 50 cents and even made me pay for that & said now that is your birthday present.
