My older son started that “garbage” when he was about 8. I overheard him telling his mother about he couldn’t eat ANYTHING that was touching ANYTHING ELSE! I stepped in when desserts were served and asked his younger brother if he’d like some chocolate chips on his vanilla ice cream and he piped up that he’d like some as well, I simply pointed that HE couldn’t have any because they’d be ‘touching’ his ice cream and he’d only recently stated that that was unacceptable! This was one of several “lessons” in ‘unintended consequences’ for them both while they were growing up!

Reminds me of when Garrison Keillor talked about the time he had the flu as a child. The neighbor brought chicken a la king over. It was yellow and chunky; he put it directly in the basin to cut out the middle man.

Didn’t Huckleberry Finn do the opposite? They’d serve him meat, potatoes and a veggie and he’d stir them all together.
