Watterson might not want to commercialize Calvin, but Calvin would.

What! No complaints from offended L. Frank Baum fans? Kevin gets there before Dorothy, and nobody ends up with brains, hearts, courage, or gaudy silver slippers! Oh well, “Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man That he didn’t, didn’t already have” ;-)

The only merchandise he had were his books. No dolls, no shirts, no lunchboxes, or bedding. Anything (other than the books) with Calvin and/or Hobbs was not appoved by him and he received no money.
