North Korea has a long term game plan to become taken seriously. It’s identical to the plan employed by the Chinese communists. First, nuclear weapons to get the Americans to treat you with more respect. Then make small moves to normalize relations with other countries. Finally, get the Americans to begin communicating directly. (Nixon going to China, anyone?) After that, the long term hope (likely impossible) is to reunify with the South while remaining in charge. That is his plan. It will take decades to execute.
I really don’t think that the US will attack North Korea. I certainly hope that doesn’t happen. The consequences are uncalculable. I don’t trust Trump and his administration much, but I just don’t think they would be that stupid.
Regardless of who the POTUS is, the North Koreans have been able to stomp their feet, rattle some sabers, cry, bluster, and do this time and time again. Why? Because every time they do, they get something. Like a spoiled child. 20 years or so ago they got reactor technology from the United States. They get food. They get weapons and technology from all manner folks.
They have been a thorn in the world’s side for decades. The same saber rattling from us and by them has been going on for decades. It is one if, if not THE, scariest and unstable nations in the world. Has been for 70+ years.
Only a Republican would think NK bombing the US would be a win. Is that why W waited so long after 9/11? Because Republicans like when the US gets attacked? It’s good for the 1%’s stock portfolio right?

I don’t see how this will end without that happening. And as usual the two jerks at the center of it aren’t likely to be among the casualties.

The people I most fear for are the South Koreans.

Oh, we’ll ALL be among the casualties. Trump will probably use nuclear, or bomb their nuclear facilities, so the fallout will blow our way.
