I used to do these in my cases with computer support. It was one way of approaching people you suspected had faked their robberies and taken the store’s money themselves. The giveaway was that they came up with a sketch they said was perfect in about ten minutes, instead of the usual two or three hours. Plus, it often came out looking like a celebrity. For some reason, I got William Shatner a lot.
