Aldi’s grocery was selling a portable record player the other day. Hubby pointed it out to me and I couldn’t believe it! Too bad I don’t own any records, that would’ve been in my cart if I had.

I was listening to music on my tablet’s music app today and several times a song the music would pause for one second then resume. That doesn’t happen with vinyl.

Of course you have to change the record once in a while.

Yes you could use a record player that has a automatic changer (if you don’t care about your records).

Because digital records do not include the whole range of sounds.

I always liked the crackling noise of the record and needle….now vinyl is making a comeback after I sold 2000 records in a garage sale!

I own a large collection of cds. Of course I prefer cds than lps, which I also own some; but I don’t listen to music in either format. When I get a new cd, which is how I get my music, I rip it into mp3, and listen to the mp3. I can copy my mp3s to different devices and the file will not loose audio quality, as it would happen if I copied an lp into a tape, and then made a copy of that tape into another tape. This way, I also avoid damaging my cds, some of which have an interesting history, or are limited editions, or have special characteristics (like being made in gold), or like being a cd in one side but being a vinyl on the other side.. or being a red cd.. or being signed etc etc. This means that I listen to mp3, with high audio quality, but I won’t throw away my collection because anyone would make an out of context or stupid comment

The thing is, I see this a lot in other context, and it even has been addressed in this cartoon, like making payments with a watch, because ‘is there’. Yes, mps3 are there, so you have to listen to them. Or if you are in the other side, since there are vinyls, you have to listen to vinyls. The thing is, at least where I am, companies like Visa, every time they come out with anew payment method, they publicize it as the new way of doing payments; either with the cell phone, a watch, a ring, or whatever. Id does not matter if is really more convenient to pay this way, is there, so you change your current payment method to whatever somebody comes up with. If, for example, somebody says there is a ring to make payments, who cares if micro-transactions (less than $50) do not require bio-metrical validation or pin. That would mean that if you are ion the street, and somebody gets closer, that somebody may empty your account with microtransactions since this thing does not require physical contact, as it is the case with any nfc device. Or who cares if the security model of many things is ‘I don’t know how does it work, so nobody else d’
