    Love Elmont’s trifecta of “head lice, melanoma, gunshot wounds.”

    @LIVERLIPS MCCRACKEN

    Love Elmont’s trifecta of “head lice, melanoma, gunshot wounds.”

    I still remember the first time I was working in the US in 1980. The partner of one of my collegues who worked in the ER at one of main hospitals in Houston told me that the US army sent its medical specialists to work there to train up on battlefield medicine by dealing with gunshot wounds. At that time firearms deaths exceeded the road toll. It was a bit of an eye opener I can tell you.

    Health care is a human right in civilized countries.

    Trump’s recent comment was that he wanted to let Obamacare implode, then he could have his way with trumpcare.

    The preamble to the constitution includes the phrase “promote the general welfare.” That should certainly include health care.

    Trump wants to turn the US into a mafia restaurant that he burns down for the insurance money.

    @JVO The same thing (Army training and all) happens in Los Angeles, I was told years ago. These days, probably also Detroit.

    That’s only one reason why I don’t understand why most of the world’s population has moved to large cities. There’s a similar story in many large cities around the world. The planet isn’t even close to overpopulated, but the cities sure are.

    Not even close? Q: If you built 3-bedroom houses on 1/4 acre lots, and put every human being on Earth, alone, in one of those bedrooms, how many quarter-acres would you need? A: Fewer than there are in the U.S., East of the Mississippi. Try it: the math isn’t hard; if it takes you more than 5 minutes, with Google, your 9th grade teacher should be ashamed.

    Those who oppose trump simply have different priorities. Trumpsters want to have tax cuts for the rich. That is their priority. Those who oppose trump, would like to have more benefits and expand healthcare for those in the middle class and working class. You can’t claim that having more healthcare benefits is socialism unless you also realize that the tax breaks for wealthy folks is also socialism, though it is socialism for the rich.

    I just had an MRI at a VA HCC. Have they always asked if you have any bullet fragments or shrapnel? Do civilian hospitals ask?

    “Trumpcare” doesn’t care is more accurate for his views on anything benefiting the middle class, lower classes, or actual Americans.

    @BRUCE4671

    After reading the article, I am more convinced that we need a universal mandatory medical coverage with ether a public option or single payer system.

    The fact that young adults are most likely to go without insurance indicates how necessary it is that people not opt out by paying. Young people have accidents and they do get sick.

    In Doonesbury land, all the major characters live long, healthy lives.

    Only a handful of minor characters have died, and only Andy Lippincott, who perished of AIDS, and a couple of B.D.‘s war buddies, who I think didn’t get any “screen time”, weren’t old enough to be considered to have lived long full lives.

    Wow, Trudeau actually wrote a very truthful strip. You give a free bennie to the people and you may as well given them crack. As long as they don’t have to pay for it, they love it. Ask the 20 somethings how they like being forced to buy insurance at ridiculous rates and you’ll get a totally different view.

    Some people just don’t understand how insurance works. The reason we need to mandate healthcare insurance is for the same reason everyone is required to have car insurance. Even if you don’t think you need it, you will eventually need it. You don’t get to have an accident and then decide to buy into insurance. That is not the way it works.
