Too bad there isn’t a body of oversight that could sweep these guys out every few years, until they got it together and started working for the people in America.

Too bad that this is wrong. That it has been the Republicans who went loco and worked to shut down the Democrats as they pushed forth their destructive polices of Neo-Liberalism which means to sell off most of the government and the country to private concerns and use of the market over human life.

This cartoon strikes me as incredibly naive. Look at this country. Do you really think the people are unified? Right here in my home state, the governor just signed a law that denies LGBTQ the right to foster or adopt children. Why on earth would the LGBTQ community want to unit with the people who would pass such legislation – or vice versa.

Our government is not based on unity but checks and balances, about compromise. But now that the Republicans control the House, the Senate and the Oval office, you can kiss compromise goodbye.

But keep thinking that both parties are exactly alike. The Republicans are laughing all the way to the bank because of that belief.

And, Mark, the other problem is that they each have to be willing to admit that their ideas aren’t always correct or always the best or even the only way to achieve the goals (which often are similar, if only they would get off their high horses and leave the ego/power plays behind).

The present two party system seems to be in a state of flux currently. As I see it the Democrats who are usually depicted as being on the left, or liberal side, have largely moved so far right they are mostly equivalent to Reagan era Republicans. The Republicans who are usually depicted as being on the right, or conservative side, have largely moved so far to the right that most of the party could be called the lunatic fringe. The Republican Party seems to be trying to tear itself apart with three groups fighting for dominance, while the Democratic Party has the Progressive wing comprised of at least three groups, working together, in an attempt to take over the party and swing it back to the left. One can only wonder who will ultimately win, and what it will mean for the future.

Republicans don’t want unity. Their entire doctrine is based upon disunity.
