I hope that’s still true. I’d hate to live through a scene from several science fiction novels.

The firm belief that our_party > (their_party + our_party) is still in place, even if the equation doesn’t balance.

Maybe the republicans should drop their divide and conquer attitude.

Only if what unites us is greater than us. A godless people is doomed to tyranny.

how can this be when “What Unites Us” is ignored by the party in power? Take a look at the dividing comment above me, chuck is judging all of us, and finding us unworthy of a country that is united.

The way it should be but not the way it is. The core of the problem stems from the talk radio style of politics we currently use which was introduced by Newt Gingrich and brought to fruition by the “Tea Party”. The idea that people with opposite opinions can use politics to reach a mutually acceptable COMPROMISE is pretty much dead now. And zero sum politics starts to rot democracy. Compromise is the grease that lubricates the gears of a democracy.

If all of you would stop worshipping YOUR gods and start worshipping MY god, we’d have peace and unity. (And I get to say what my god wants.)

One can’t be moral until one’s behaviour is forced by the promise of heaven or threaten by the fear of hell. How can anyone freely choose what to do on the basis of whether the behaviour is right or wrong in and of itself, irrespective of how it affects one?
