This strip is a little strange in sequence after yesterday’s. It’s almost like Tracy hadn’t already heard that the bank was trying to take B.O.’s house.
It just occurred to me about the name of the bank, “Paragon,” may not suit them all that well, given that paragon means “a model of excellence or perfection.” Certainly, B.O. is not thinking that they are excellent or perfect at this point, anyway.
I agree with NEIL that something doesn’t “ring true” about yesterday’s and today’s strip. I realize this is mostly preliminary set-up, and I know that Mike writes in short spurts of information, but still. . .
Tracy wouldn’t have just said “That’s not my field” and then hung up on B.O. This must be at least a couple of days later, if the problem has now been written up in the Daily Paper. Are we to believe he just forgot about it in the meantime? That would be out of character for him.
“Local farmer,” ehh? What crop does B.O. grow in commercially-viable quantity? How much land does Sunny Dell Acres really control? Maybe that mortgage deal is a whole lot bigger, financially, than we were thinking a few days ago: lead headline story in the Business section of The Daily?!
Junior’s greater concern for Sparkle’s daddy should finally get Tracy to take some action even if he doesn’t consider this to be “police business.” Razor-sharp chin means razor-sharp deduction (genetic, I guess), and that’s what is needed to unravel the Plenty Mortgage Mystery and find out who or what is lurking under the surface….
I have a friend who fell on hard times & will lose his house this summer. He told me that at least in our state there’s something called “right of redemption” where even after the house has been sold in a sheriff’s sale the former owners still have a 10-day grace period to buy it back, assuming they can fully pay all back mortgage payments, taxes, & so on (which in my friend’s case comes to about $500,000). If worst comes to worse for B.O. maybe Diet Smith (or Daddy Warlocks in a cross-over) can bail him out at the last minute.
